How To Beat The Credit Crunch!
Regional Seminars from the BIPP & AOP
Everyone knows it's here, but few know how to get through it.
The BIPP and AOP are working together to support their photographers in the current economic climate. A series of three half day seminars will be held in the New Year exploring ways of easing the photographer's path through the credit crunch.
Each afternoon will see three leading industry figures discuss practical advice and tips on how to guide your business through the tough times.
Marketing Your Business - Paul Dyer FBIPP, BA, ACII
Earning Money from Copyright - Gwen Thomas
Managing Finance - Richard Lane FCA
Exclusively for BIPP and AOP members, these seminars are subsidised by the BIPP, with all three speakers reducing their fees. Places are just £10!
The dates are:
20 January 2009, Bristol
27 January 2009, Birmingham
10 February 2009, Manchester
Tickets are just £10 per person and must be pre-booked with BIPP Head Office (01296 718530, info@bipp.com). Each afternoon will be followed by a BIPP Assessment Evening - so if you'd like some informal advice on your work, bring it along - more information is available from BIPP Head Office.
The Speakers
Marketing - led by Paul Dyer FBIPP, BA, ACII.
Paul is a former President of the BIPP and a non-executive director of Towergate. His knowledge of marketing and business has contributed to Towergate being the largest independently owned insurance intermediary in Europe.
He started his career with Royal Insurance before moving to TSB. In 1983, he became marketing manager for ITT London & Edinburgh. In 1992 he joined Economic Insurance and was part of the management buyout team, leaving Hiscox to create Towergate in 1997. Paul was Group Communications Director for Towergate before becoming a non-executive director in 2005.
With vast experience and insight, Paul will deliver direct, succinct and valuable advice on marketing yourself in tough times.
Copyright & Licensing - led by Gwen Thomas
Gwen is Executive Director, Business & Legal Affairs at the AOP. Regarded as one of the leading industry experts on copyright, she will take delegates through the law surrounding copyright, show how to license work and explain the financial benefits of collective licensing.
Knowing what rights the copyright legislation gives you and how you make those rights work for you, by licensing your work, should be the base of any photographer's business. When times are hard your copyright can go on working for you, bringing in much needed income now and for the future.
Finance - led by Richard Lane FCA
Richard is Managing Partner of accountancy firm The Trevor Jones Partnership LLP. Having trained and qualified with a medium-sized firm in the City in 1983, Richard moved to Coopers and Lybrand, where he gained valuable experience post-qualification. He joined Trevor Jones in 1986, and specialises in advising owner-managed businesses, dealing with property companies and advising high net worth individuals. He has also developed the company's very successful entertainment department, dealing with high profile clients in the entertainment industry.
Unravelling the terminology, Richard will offer straight forward methods to manage your business' finances. Credit control and dealing with creditors and debtors will all be covered.

Changes 2008!
The London and Home counties region is going through something of a regeneration at the moment. After restarting groups in the west of the region we hope now to turn our attention more into the Capital to offer a number of key events per year.
We hope for these events to include our Gala day, which will move from the West of London to a central location as to make it more accessible. No info on the itinerary as yet but we hope to make the day useful, entertaining and informative, utilising links between trade, education and the profession. We'll keep you posted.
The West of London group is eventually going to be moved more into, well, the West of London, as we are now concentrating on creating a vibrant group in Guildford, Surrey. If you are interested in the West of London group and would like to get involved please contact one of us (contact info on the committee page).
